Paris Stock Exchange Trading Volume Dips From January's Record High

Trading volume on the Paris markets dipped slightly in February, to 4.12 million trades. The daily average was EUR2.29 million for February is below January's record figure of EUR2.62 billion, but is 37% higher than in February 1998 and 11% higher than 1998's daily average value. Year-to-date transaction volume for the months of January and February stood at 8.78 million trades, a 27% increase from 1998.
Monthly trading on Le Nouveau Marché rose by 11.56% in February, reaching a total value of EUR131.43 million. The number of transactions reached 54,872, a 103% increase compared to January. Daily average stood at EUR6.57 million and 2,744 trades. Total market capitalisation reached EUR5 billion following the introduction of six new countries. A total of 13,702,014 contracts were traded on Paris derivatives markets MONEP and MATIF in February. Market capitalisation of French stocks on the Premier Marché and Second Marché at end February was EUR872 billion.
