Paris Bourse Trading Steady In August - Eight-Month Total Of 66.14 Million Trades Beats Record Full-Year Figure For 1999

The Paris Bourse was on a steady track in August with trading at much the same level as in the previous month, but total trades in the first eight months already exceeded the recordfull-year figure for 1999.

Trades through Paris Bourse systems during the 23 business days in August totaled 6,986,608. This compares with 6,492,080 in July and shows a 77.3% rise from the 3,940,272 recorded in the same month of 1999. The daily average for the month was 303,765, showing a decline of 6,4% from 324,604 in July. The peak for the month was 401,678 on August 31 and the low point was 138,452 on August 15.

In terms of trade value, the daily average for the month was EUR 3.75 billion, representing a decline of 10.7 % from EUR 4.20 billion in July but an increase of 53.6% over August 1999. The peak for the month was EUR 7.89 billion on August 30 and the low EUR 1.72 billion on August 14. The total for the month was EUR 86.32 billion compared with EUR 83.91 billion in July, representing a rise of 61% from the EUR 53.5 billion traded in the same month of 1999.

In the first eight months of the year, ParisBourse systems handled 66.14 million trades compared with 59.8 million for the whole of 1999. They represented a total of EUR 753.32 billion compared with EUR 438 billion for the same period of last year and EUR 781.6 billion for the whole of 1999. At August 31, capitalization of French equities on the Premier, Second and Nouveau Marchés totaled EUR 1,760 billion.
