Paris Bourse Trading Data - Record Volumes In September - Daily Average Tops Eur 5 Bn

In September, trades through Euronext Paris systems topped a daily average of EUR 5 billion for the first time.

The daily average stood at EUR 5.09 billion, up 35.7% from EUR 3.75 billion in August, and representing a 61.5% year-on-year increase. The total for the month's 21 business days was EUR 106.98 billion.

Trading peaked at EUR 7.38 billion on September 28, while the low point was EUR 3.63 billion on September 25.

The number of trades also showed a steep rise in September, reaching 8,156,136 or a daily average of 388,387, up 27.86% on August.

The busiest day was September 1, with 499,304 transactions, and the slowest September 26 with 270,746.

In the first nine months of the year, Euronext Paris systems handled 74.3 million trades compared with 59.8 million for the whole of 1999. They represented a total of EUR 860.35 billion compared with EUR 508.41 billion for the same period of last year and EUR 723 billion for the whole of 1999.

At September 30, capitalization of French equities on the Premier, Second and Nouveau Marchés totaled EUR 1,623 billion.
