Paris Bourse SBF busiest month of August ever, with the daily record beaten twice

Amounts traded were the highest ever for August, averaging EUR 2.428 billion, a day or 43.58% more than in the same month of last year. This was also 17.29% more than the daily average of EUR 2.07 billion for 1998 as a whole.
Trading in French equities during the 22 business days in August thus totaled EUR 53,433 million. The daily average showed a decline of 15.87% from July.
On August 31 amounts reached an all-time high, topping the EUR 5 billion mark for the first time in a single day to stand at EUR 5.045 billion or FF33.08 billion. The previous record had already been broken on August 25, when EUR 4.535 billion changed hands. The low point for the month was EUR 1.634 billion on August 19.
The total amount traded on the Paris Bourse during the first eight months came to EUR 437.46 billion or 30% more than the EUR 336.55 billion traded in the same period of 1998.
Trades in French equities averaged 175,505, a decline of 21.77% from an average of 225,629 in July. The total for the month was 3,883,117 trades.
The busiest day of the month was August 31 with 260,208 trades and the least busy August 11 with 124,094. Over the first eight months to August 31, there were a total of 34.93 million trades or 22.64% more than the 28.48 million reported in the same period of 1998.
At August 31, capitalization of French equities on the Premier Marché and Second Marché totaled EUR 1.048 billion.
