Over the weekend, the ETHW came under attack with hackers ultimately making off with a significant quantity of ETHW tokens.
Paolo Ardoino, CTO of Bitfinex has commented on the importance of tightened cybersecurity measures across the industry post Merge.
"Proof-of-work (PoW) chain ETHW’s contract was reportedly exploited over the weekend, resulting in attackers harvesting ETHW tokens. Blocksec indicated that the attackers had initially transferred 200 WETH through the Omni bridge of the Gnosis chain and replayed the message on the PoW chain to secure an extra 200 ETHW. The exploit however does not seem to have affected the main Ethereum PoW network. We applaud the developers of the Ethereum PoW for taking such swift action to rectify the issue as soon as alarm bells were rung.

In any case, this latest attack clearly demonstrates, as it has time and time again, that hackers are constantly on the lookout for these vulnerabilities and are an ever-present danger to our industry. We must be mindful of the fact that incidents of bad actors seeking to breach the security systems specifically after such an update will not decrease and remain in a perpetual state of vigilance to help guard against such threats."
