The production of indices has a built-in handling of weight restriction in the indices, based upon many criteria as for example government ownership and company's own share of their own company etc. The calculation of historical values from 31st December 1995 was calculated wrongly with weight restrictions. Reversing the production start was irrevocable when this was discovered. A decision was then made to delay the introduction, since a recalculation of historical values for all indices over five consecutive years would have had a significant processing time.
Oslo Børs will now use the time needed to ensure right quality in the data material. The new production date is set to be on Friday the 2nd of February 2001.
The availability of the recalculated historic index values will be announced next week.
