Oslo Børs: Strongest Month So Far This Year

May was the strongest month so far this year, with a 4.6% rise in the Oslo Børs Benchmark Index.

• May was the fourth month of rising share prices in a row, and we have to look back to the week before Easter to find a week in which the Benchmark Index fell. The Benchmark Index has gained 10.3% over the first five months as a whole, and has set new all-time highs on 20 days. The latest all-time high of 605.44 was set on 28 May.
• The volume of trading continues to be at a high level. The average daily value of share trading in May was NOK 4.1 billion, with a daily average of 84,454 transactions. Measured in terms of the number of transactions, trading activity in May was 15.6% higher than for the same month last year. The average daily value of share trading since the start of the year is NOK 4.4 billion, with a daily average of 86,439 transactions.
• Morgan Stanley was the broker responsible for the biggest trading volume in May, with a market share of 14.3% of trading on Oslo Børs. The broker statistics show that DNB and Merrill Lynch were in second and third place.
• Bionor Pharma, EMS Seven Seas, Sølvtrans, Romreal and BWG Homes were the best-performing shares in May according to the monthly statistics. Three of these shares – EMS Seven Seas, Sølvtrans and BWG Homes – were the subject of takeover bids in May. The shares showing the largest falls in May were Nio, Frontline and Badger Explorer.
