Options, the leading provider of cloud-enabled managed services to the global capital markets, has today announced the successful platform migration for quantitative trading hedge fund Systematica Investments (Systematica). The project involved the extensive rollout of a fully managed infrastructure and trading platform across all of the firm’s European, Asian and North American operations.
Jersey-based Systematica, the quant hedge fund founded by Leda Braga in January 2015, is a market leader in systematic trading that uses science and technology as the driving force of its investment business. When the firm announced plans to replace its legacy infrastructure, it needed a strategic partner with the capabilities and scope to support ambitious trading platform innovations and chose specialized managed services partner, Options.
Options engaged with the Systematica team throughout the entire process as the hedge fund rebuilt its proprietary trading platform from the ground up and revolutionized its approach to data provisioning. Expert Options engineering staff engaged closely to mitigate risks involved with transitioning an entire trading architecture platform and to ensure seamless transition with minimal disruption to trading operations.
Adopting a coordinated global migration approach, Options deployed localized teams to support a phased transition at each of Systematica’s trading locations across Europe, US and Asia. The follow-the-sun support model meant Options was truly agile in getting all trading operations tested and fully operational in production environments for markets open on Day 1. To complement the enhanced trading architecture Options additionally migrated all employee desktop applications to its Managed Platform for improved day-to-day business operations across all Systematica offices globally.
Matt Kilsby, COO Systematica said, “There is a high degree of risk involved with outsourcing infrastructure but transparency from the Options team was key in overcoming the challenges such a complex project brings. The team’s exceptional knowledge of the intricacies of the trading environment were clear from the outset. As a result, we are proud to say that we are one of the first in the quant space to achieve a migration of this scale and it has further cemented our leadership status as our industry peers look to follow suit. Options has proved a perfect cultural fit with the Systematica core values of excellence, innovation and team work. They showcased a responsive, entrepreneurial approach and we look forward to a long and productive partnership”.
CEO and Founder of Options, Nigel Kneafsey commented, “This project was a tremendous team effort. The sheer magnitude of this migration and performance of our platform proves Options has the breadth and scope to execute large scale deployments to support time-critical trading strategies. The Options Managed Platform and Managed Applications solutions has afforded Systematica the flexibility of choice and the operational excellence they require to continue future innovations on their trading architecture.”
