OneChicago, LLC today announced that 185,728 security futures contracts traded at the Exchange in January, a 22% increase over December volume and about the same amount that traded in January 2004. Open interest stood at 175,197 contracts as of January 31.

Each single stock futures contract is equivalent to 100 shares of the underlying stock or exchange-traded fund. The top five single stock futures contracts by volume in January were:

  • SBC Communications Inc. (SBC1C)
  • Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD1C)
  • Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ1C)
  • Bank of America Corp. (BAC1C)
  • JP Morgan Chase & Co. (JPM1C)

The Exchange lists 119 single stock futures, including futures on the DIAMONDS Trust.
