On Tuesday, 7th October 2003, the Ljubljana Stock Exchange witnessed the inauguration of the new sem-on.net internet portal established as part of the Information Integration of the Stock Exchanges of SE Europe Project, by the Ljubljana Stock Exchange. A three-year venture starting in 2002 is being implemented within the European Stability Pact, and focuses on the creation of organisation and infrastructure to enable informing and collecting of information about the capital markets on the region of the south-eastern Europe.

The web portal was formally launched by Matjaz Logar, State Secretary, Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Slovenia, with several other distinguished guests attending the ceremony - Mr Janez Premože, National Coordinator for the Stability Pact of SE Europe and SECI, Mr Jožko Cuk, President, Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia, Dr Draško Veselinovic, President & CEO, Ljubljana Stock Exchange, and Presidents or the management of other participating Stock Exchanges as well as Stock Exchange members.

The portal introduces the Stock Exchanges and securities from the region of the south-eastern Europe - Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Skopje, Belgrade, Varaždin, Podgorica and Ljubljana. The project of information integration strives to establish an on-line exchange of data for stock exchange members, enable publication of price-sensitive information, improve and standardise statistical data and ensure adequate promotion of participant markets of the region. In the future, the participating Stock Exchanges and institutions will endeavour to achieve improved profitability, transparency and safety of investments in the region, by implementing internationally recognised standards of business operations, and with particular emphasis on:

  • implementation of infrastructure for publication of price-sensitive and other information
  • harmonisation of regulatory and operational standards with global trends in the capital markets
  • design, development and implementation of appropriate cross-border trading solutions for participant Stock Exchanges,
  • design, development and implementation of adequate solutions for improved market surveillance,
  • further improvement of mutual cooperation and promotion of the region, by conducting regular meetings of combined working groups and joint promotional activities.
The sem-on.net portal primarily caters for the needs of investors interested in basic information on companies and their securities, such as current prices and their movements within the last year, basic business operations data of individual companies, information on CEOs and biggest owners and basic data from financial statements, basic financial indicators and valuation indicators.

Statistical contents of the sem-on.net portal include data about the number of securities traded on the participant Stock Exchanges, their market capitalisation, market turnover, market performance of indices and individual securities on participating Exchanges.

Likewise, daily and monthly trading summaries with information covering the activities of the participant Stock Exchanges as well as extensive information on regulatory legislation in individual participating countries are available at the new Internet portal.

Additionally, also the Montenegro Stock Exchange, of Podgorica, will be joining the project, with their data available by the end of the year at the latest.

At the occasion of the official start of the new portal, the Ljubljana Stock Exchange published a brochure with short introduction of the markets of all the participating Stock Exchanges.
