In October 2002, all but one of WSE indices went up. TechWIG, the index covering companies from the Segment for Innovative Technologies, recorded the highest monthly increase.

The cash market turnover amounted to 4 251 million zloty and was 18.3% higher compared to August. On the futures market, turnover totalled 6 834 million zloty, 0.3% higher that in the previous month.

Monthly statisticsMonthly summary - recent events on the WSE OCTOBER ON THE EXCHANGEOn October 10, 2002, the Exchange Management Board submitted a motion to the Exchange Supervisory Board to delist the shares of Polska Prasa Lokalna Holding. This was due to the prolonged lack of an entity authorised to represent this company. The Supervisory Board delisted the PPL stock at its meeting on October 16.

On October 11, 2002 investment certificates of the Skarbiec-Gwarancja 2002 Zamkniety Fundusz Inwestycyjny - closed-end investment fund (SG2002) were traded on the Exchange for the last time. This was due to the initiation of the fund liquidation procedures on October 18, 2002.

On October 16, 2002, the Exchange Supervisory Board admitted to trading 1,681,580 bearer shares of a series B of Emax S.A. Emax is a company specialising in the integration of tele-IT systems. Emax has been active on the Polish market for over 13 years.

In October, two new series of investment certificates debuted on the Exchange:

  • on October 18 - 5,000,000 investment certificates issued by the Pioneer Obligacji 2 Fundusz Inwestycyjny Mieszany - Pioneer Bond 2 Interval Fund (ticker symbol PIO2FIM03) were introduced to trading;
  • on October 21 - 125,275 investment certificates issued by the Millennium Fundusz Inwestycyjny Zamkniety Arbitraz plus 20 - closed-end investment fund were introduced to trading. These certificates have been assimilated with the certificates of the same fund already listed on the Exchange.

On October 25, 2002, fixed-rate T-bonds maturing October 24, 2013 (ticker symbol DS1013), with nominal value of 1,000 zloty debuted on the Exchange.

On October 28, 2002, certificates of the PZU Zamkniety Fundusz Inwestycyjny KUJAWIAK N+ - closed-end investment fund (Q1Q2002) were traded on the Exchange for the last time. This was due to the initiation of the fund liquidation procedures on November 4, 2002.

Changes in the WSE indices

Following the trading session on October 15, 2002, AMS stock was removed from the MIDWIG and WIG index portfolios. This was due to the closing of the so-called summons - invitation to sell stock AMS announced by Agora and the fact that Agora exeeded the 99% threshold of ownership in AMS stock.

Following the trading session on October 24, 2002, the LG Petro Bank was removed from the WIG index portfolio, as well as from the portfolio of the sub-index WIG-Banking.This was due to the closing of the so-called summons - invitation to sell LG Petro Bank stock announced by Nordea AG and the fact that NORDEA exceed the 99% threshold of ownership in LG Petro Bank stock.

Following the revision of the CESI index portfolio on October 31, 2002, a new composition of the index covering companies representing 5 exchanges of Central Europe was published. The index has been calculated since 1996.

As of the beginning of November 2002, the CESI portfolio includes shares of 22 companies listed on the following exchanges: Bratislava (2 companies), Budapest (3 companies), Ljubljana (5 companies), Prague (3 companies) and Warsaw (9 companies). The following companies listed on the WSE are included in CESI: TPSA, Pekao, PKNOrlen, BPHPBK, BZWBK, Agora, BIG, KGHM and BRE. Polish companies have the largest weight in the portfolio (47%).
