Cash products
18.8 million transactions were completed on Euronext’s cash markets in October 2006, up 28.3% on October 2005, making the month the busiest October ever, with a daily average of 854,000 transactions. In total, more than 182 million cash transactions have been registered since the beginning of the year, up 36.4% on the same period in 2005, representing a new annual volume record with two months to go to end of year.
Shares
17.9 million transactions were registered in October 2006, bringing the total number of transactions since the beginning of the year to almost 174 million, up 35.9% on 2005.
Initial Public Offerings
There were 17 more IPOs with EUR 2.6 billion raised on all Euronext markets in October 2006, bringing the total number of new listings since the beginning of the year to 105 and the total amount of capital raised to EUR 13.7 billion. Those 105 IPOs represent an additional market capitalization of EUR 60 billion. Both the total number and value of new listings so far this year are at their highest since 2001.
NextTrack & NextWarrants
Year-to-date transactions were up 104.5% on NextTrack and up 66.4% on NextWarrants, which includes warrants and certificates, making the first ten months of the year the busiest ever for these products.
Derivatives products
Euronext.liffe, the international derivatives business of Euronext, traded a record number of contracts for the third consecutive year. A total of 618 million futures and options contracts have already been traded in 2006, beating the 2005 annual volume record of 606 million contracts. Total exchange volumes in the year-to-date are up 22% on 2005.
Year-to-date trading volumes have grown across the whole product range. Interest-rate products have traded 348 million contracts in the year-to-date, up 20% on 2005. Equity products have traded 262 million contracts so far this year, up 25% on 2005. Commodity products traded 8.1 million contracts, up 14% on 2005.
During the month of October Euronext.liffe traded 55 million futures and options contracts.
Bclear, Euronext.liffe’s wholesale service for equity derivatives, celebrated its first anniversary (it was launched on 24 October 2005) this month, having traded 45 million contracts in its first year.
