After a record month registered last September, 14.7 million transactions were completed on Euronext’s cash markets in October 2005, up 28.2% on the same month in 2004, making it the busiest October ever. This brings the total number of transactions registered since the beginning of 2005 to a record level of 134 million, representing a daily average of 624,000.
Shares
14.1 million transactions were completed in shares in October 2005, up 29.6% on the same month last year. A total of 128 million transactions were registered in the year-to-date, up 15.2% on 2004. This represents an average of 597,000 share transactions completed each day.
Initial Public Offerings
There have been 9 IPOs on all Euronext markets in October 2005 with EUR 1.5 billion raised, bringing the total number of new listings so far this year to 52, a record level since 2001. Those 52 IPOs represent an additional market capitalization of EUR 38 billion, with a total amount of EUR 8.1 billion raised.
Derivatives products
Euronext.liffe, the international derivatives business of Euronext, traded 33 million Short Term Interest Rate (STIR) contracts in October, up 50% on 2004 and up 9% for the year-to-date.
Euronext.liffe traded 57 million futures and options contracts in October, up 30% year-on-year. Over 506 million futures and options contracts have been traded in 2005, up 6% on the same period in 2004. Average daily volume for the year-to-date is 2.4 million contracts.
Equity products traded 22 million futures and options contracts in October, up 8% year-on-year with Equity Index products trading over 9 million contracts and Individual Equity products trading over 12 million contracts.
The FTSE 100 Index FLEX Option (European–style exercise) set an open interest record of 1,364,295 on 26 October.
Commodity products traded 630,000 futures and options in October. In the year-to-date volumes are over 7 million, up 10% on 2004.
