EEX Group mourns the loss of Dr Jürgen Kroneberg who died on 9th February 2019 at the age of 69. Dr Kroneberg was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the European Energy Exchange (EEX), EPEX SPOT and European Commodity Clearing (ECC) and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Powernext. He accompanied the development of EEX since its establishment.
Peter Reitz, Chief Executive Officer of EEX, says: “We are deeply saddened by the sudden and far too early death of Dr Jürgen Kroneberg. His extensive expertise in the energy industry and his confidence in EEX Group have been important pillars of our success. We are grateful for his loyalty and continuous support. On his passing, we are losing a good friend and a great person. Our deepest condolences go to his whole family.”
Dr Jürgen Kroneberg worked as a lawyer in leading positions in various municipal and district administrations from 1984 to 1997. In 1997, he became an Executive Board member of RWE Energie AG with responsibility for Sales (Germany / Benelux) and Legal. As a member of the Executive Board of RWE Net AG, he was responsible for Sales / Legal from 2000 to 2003 and subsequently joined the Executive Board of RWE Energy AG. After leaving RWE Energy AG in June 2009, he worked as a lawyer at Clifford Chance before he joined White & Case (Düsseldorf) as a lawyer in April 2015.
Dr Kroneberg was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of EEX since 2000.
