NZX Seeks Partner To Develop Sharemarket Education Programme

Date 27/04/2004

New Zealand Exchange Limited (NZX) is developing a comprehensive education programme tailored to the New Zealand securities markets. The aim of the programme will be to boost the level and quality of sharemarket-related education available to market participants and retail investors.

To realise the full benefit of this venture, NZX is looking to appoint a New Zealand-based education provider to enter into a relationship with NZX to design, develop and implement this programme. The tenders process is now open for organisations wishing to submit proposals.

NZX marketing and communications manager Melissa Jenner said initial education offerings would include a revised NZX Broker education programme, which will be designed to set a high standard for the educational requirements for market participant accreditation.

This course will be developed following a review of the existing NZX Broker accreditation course and consultation with market participants. Key goals are to raise standards and simplify the educational component of the accreditation process for market participants who advise clients in New Zealand.

“It is paramount for the integrity of the market and protection of investors that NZX Brokers and other market participants continue to be highly trained and skilled. We see NZX playing a critical role in ensuring these standards are met,” she said.

“It is also very important that the new course is closely aligned to the New Zealand sharemarket. In addition, we aim to make the course more cost-efficient, user-friendly, and technologically advanced.”

The other facet of NZX's education programme will involve providing education courses for retail investors, Jenner said. This a critical role that will increase knowledge of the sharemarket among retail investors and have positive flow-on effects for the markets.

“We receive a number of queries from investors and other individuals seeking sharemarket-related education, so in response to this we plan to provide accessible, relevant sharemarket-related education courses to encourage more people to invest in the sharemarket with the benefit of education behind them.”
