The most impressive metric in 2006 has been the amount of capital raised. For the year to date, the total capital raised on NZX's markets across debt and equity totals $2.1 billion. This figure is $202 million more than the amount raised for the same period last year. Over $1 billion has been raised in the debt space in 2006 ($1.39 billion), mainly through the ten new debt issues. The graph below illustrates that the level of 2006 debt raising is already more than the total raised in 2004 and well above the level at this time last year.

“More and more companies are acknowledging that the listed environment is an ideal place to raise debt,” said Mark Weldon, NZX Chief Executive Officer. “The transparency and continuous disclosure requirements give both the company and its investors comfort that they have enough information available for the investment community to make informed decisions.”

NZAX continues to trade strongly. Total value traded for the month was $1 million, more than the total value traded in June 2005. NZAX stocks are also trading more since the same month last year. There was a total of 603 trades, 23% more than in June 2005. However, NZDX total trade numbers were slightly down compared to the same month last year at 2,685, a 6% decrease.

Westpac Banking Corporation became an accredited NZX Faster Participant; they are the first retail bank to adopt paperless settlement for NZX securities. Campbell MacPherson Limited became an NZX Sponsor this month brining the total to 46.
