The NZX 50 Index ended the month of July at 3581; it has grown 6% in the last seven months. For July, the average daily number of trades across the three markets was 2,363, and the average daily value traded was $135 million.
Strong year to date performance in NZDX & NZAX Markets
The NZDX and NZAX Markets continue to perform strongly; total trade numbers and the total amount of value traded statistics are well above the levels this time last year.
“We are extremely satisfied at the progress that these two markets are making,” said Geoff Brown, NZX Head of Products. “Transparency of trading and the quality of issuer product in the debt market is what is attracting the investment community to these listed products. Companies listed on the NZAX are maturing rapidly and are using the correct distribution channels to get their stories out there, making them a household name and capturing more and more attention.”
Boosted by eleven new debt listings, two of which were rated, debt trading statistics have been impressive this year. Total value traded for the year to date on the NZDX was $1.17 billion, $131 million more than the total value traded in the same period in 2005. Trading numbers have also increased from 2005; there have been 17,863 NZDX trades until the end of July compared to 14,805 during the same period for 2005.
Total value traded for the year on the NZAX is $45 million, 125% more than the total value traded for the first seven months of 2005. NZAX stocks have also traded more for this year to date period than during the same period last year. There has been a total of 4,814 trades this year, 51% more than during the same period in 2005.
