Highlights
- Strong index performance in first half continues - The NZX 50 Index ended the first half of 2007 on 4,234, an 18% increase since the same period last year and a 4.4% increase since the beginning of 2007. The NZX 15 Index is up 20% since the same period last year.
- Equity raising up 116% on same period last year, total capital raised tops $2.5 billion - Total capital raised in the first half of 2007 is up 28% at $2.65 billion year to date, compared to $2 billion at the same time last year.
- Average daily trades up 3% – Average daily trades up 3% on the same period last year at 2,512, compared with 2,442 for the first half of 2006.
- Increased demand for market data – Number of NZX Market Data terminals has increased 6% to 9,344, compared with 8,862 at the start of 2007.
Trading
- Total number of trades was 309,010, a 3% increase on the same period last year. Average number of daily trades was 2,512 for the first half of 2007, compared with 2,442 for the first half of 2006.
- Total value traded in the first half of 2007 was $16.85 billion, a 9% decrease on the same period last year. Average daily value traded of $137 million, compared with $151 million for the first half of 2006.
- Total number of trades for the NZSX was 292,052 for the first half of 2007, a 4% increase on the same period last year. Total value traded on the NZSX was $16.18 billion for the first half of 2007, a 7% decrease on the same period last year.
- Total number of trades for the NZAX was 3,259 f for the first half of 2007, a 24% decrease on the same period last year. Total value traded on the NZAX was $23 million.
- Total number of trades for the NZDX was 13,699 for the first half of 2007. Total value traded on the NZDX was $648 million.
Capital Raised
- New equity raised in the first half of 2007 was $1.49 billion and new debt raised was $1.16 billion. Total capital raised in the first half of 2007 was 2.65 billion.
Other
- Number of NZX Market Data terminals has increased to 9,344.
- The total number of instalment warrants trades for the first half of 2007 was 5,449, a 35% increase on the same period last year. Total value traded for instalment warrants for the first half of 2007 was $55 million.
- Smartshares funds under management (FUM) is $371million across its five ETFs, a 12% increase on the same period last year. Smartshares has a total of 14,818 unitholders.
