NZX May Sell Naming Rights To Indices

Date 25/06/2004

New Zealand Exchange Limited (NZX) has published a Request for Proposal (RFP) today regarding the potential sale of the naming rights to the NZX Indices. The NZX Indices are the internationally recognised performance benchmarks of the New Zealand securities markets and the companies listed on them.

The potential sale of the naming rights would cover any or all of the individual NZX Indices, and represents a unique opportunity for an organisation to become undeniably associated with New Zealand 's financial markets.

“As one of the key indicators of the health of a nation's markets and general economy, indices play a vital role in measuring and tracking performance,” said Guy Fisher, NZX Indices Manager. “They also receive unprecedented public exposure in New Zealand and in global market reports. The NZSX 50, our benchmark index, is seen by hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders every night on our television screens, not to mention in our daily newspapers and regularly heard on our radios.”

“The ideal organisation to be associated with this sort of iconic symbol would be a strong brand that fits with NZX's technology, markets and brand,” said Melissa Jenner, NZX Marketing Manager. “This is a great opportunity for someone to increase and strengthen their profile with the New Zealand public, investors, both local and foreign, and market professionals.”

“Overseas, media companies have tended to benefit enormously from the association with market indices and have become part of the day-to-day vernacular,” said Jenner. “The ‘Dow Jones' and the ‘FTSE' are synonymous with financial markets around the world, and we hope that, by associating such a brand with the NZX Indices, the profile and interest in the New Zealand markets will increase exponentially.” For further information on the NZX Indices or to receive a copy of the RFP, www.nzx.com/aboutus/news.
