NZX: Capital Raised More Than Doubles In First Half Of 2009

Date 07/07/2009

NZX Operating Metrics released today show $4.56 billion of capital has been raised on NZX Markets in the first half of 2009.

This is more than double the $2.07 billion raised in the first half of 2008.

There was $1.69 billion of equity raised in the first half of 2009, and $2.87 billion of debt.

In June 2009, $342 million of equity was raised and $262 million of debt. BNZ raised $260 million of debt in the month of June and AMP NZ Office Trust, NZX and Kiwi Income Property Trust raised secondary capital.

NZX Head of Trading and Liquidity, Fiona Mackenzie said, “Today's metrics reinforce that our capital markets are operating efficiently and supporting growth at the company level in New Zealand. We expect demand for debt and equity to remain strong into the second half of the year.

“Total trade numbers have been up on the same period last year for the last two months and major indices are now showing gains year to date.”
