Highlights- Average daily trades reached 2,803 for April 2005, a 10% increase over the same month last year.
- Total value traded reached $2.5 billion for the month of April. Average daily value was $127 million, a 21% increase versus April 2004.
- ABN AMRO Equity Derivatives New Zealand Limited issued 15 instalment warrants covering some of the largest NZSX securities. This is New Zealand 's first comprehensive instalment warrants programme supported by continuous pricing.
- NZAX had its first listing of the year, Avon Investments Limited (AIL).
- Westpac is taking part in an upcoming NZDX issue as a Distributing and Underwriting Sponsor – the first such activity on New Zealand market.
Transaction activity increased compared with the same period in 2004. Average daily transactions in both equity and debt securities reached 2,803, a 10% increase on April 2004. Total value traded for the month was $2.5 billion, a 21% increase on April 2004.
ABN AMRO's issuance of 15 instalment warrants marked the first comprehensive instalments warrants programme to be offered to New Zealand investors. Importantly, ABN AMRO also committed to being a market maker in these securities by providing automated, real time pricing that is facilitated by Direct Market Access (DMA). ABN AMRO is continuously pricing its instalment warrants based on movements in the price of the underlying security.
In addition, Avon Investments Limited (AIL) became the first new issuer of equity securities this year. Avon Investments listed on 5 April.
In December 2004 NZX announced the addition of Westpac as a Distributing and Underwriting Sponsor. Westpac is now officially taking part in the distribution of an upcoming NZDX issue of debt by Fairfax . NZX is looking to continue to expand its participant base across a broader set of New Zealand's financial market participants.
Smartshares
In April the Smartshares savings plan was rolled out to all Smartshares investors. Investors in each of Smartshare's four ETF products are now eligible to make regular monthly contributions to their Smartshare holdings.
Smartshares now has $175 million funds under management across its four listed ETF products. With the extension of the regular savings plan across all four Smartshares funds, a total of 1,382 Smartshares investors are currently contributing on average $175 per month to increase their savings levels.
