NZX Announces Management Updates In Legal & Policy Teams

Date 26/02/2015

NZX today announced a number of management updates to its legal and policy teams.

After seven years with NZX, Robyn Dey has decided to step down as Head of Policy & Legal.

NZX CEO Tim Bennett commented: “On behalf of NZX’s board and the team here, I would like to sincerely thank Robyn for the significant contribution she has made to the development of our markets and business over the past seven years. In the past two years in particular, Robyn has led the strengthening of our regulatory function and played a key role in the development of NXT, NZX’s new market for smaller, high growth businesses.”

NZX has appointed Hamish Macdonald as Head of Policy. Hamish has been with NZX since 2013 leading the regulatory enforcement team and working across a range of regulatory matters. He has extensive experience in financial regulation and policy development work including having worked for five years at the UK Listing Authority, the body that regulates issuers listed on the London Stock Exchange.

NZX has also appointed Kristin Brandon to the newly created position of Head of Compliance, to oversee the NZX Group’s compliance with the various laws and regulations under which its businesses operate. Kristin joined NZX in 2007 and has most recently acted as Senior Counsel to the NZX Policy & Legal team. She has significant specialist legal experience in company and securities law, including in relation to capital raisings, mergers and acquisitions and acting for fund managers.

Kristin’s role is particularly relevant as the NZX Group grows its Smartshares and SuperLife funds management businesses, following NZX’s acquisition of SuperLife in January.

Both Hamish and Kristin will report to NZX CEO Tim Bennett.

The above management changes will take effect from Monday 2 March.

NZX Head of Market Supervision Joost van Amelsfort, who has responsibility for NZX’s regulation of Issuers and Market Participants, continues to report directly to the NZX Board.

NZX CEO Tim Bennett commented: “The addition of Hamish and Kristin to NZX’s management team reflects the continued investment we are making in our people and resources to support the growth of New Zealand’s capital markets. These appointments reflect NZX’s commitment to ensuring that resourcing across our regulatory function can meet current market demands, and we can continue to respond effectively to regulatory developments.”
