The Instalment Warrants cover a wide range of some of New Zealand’s most prominent listed companies and will provide sharemarket investors the ability to introduce increased leverage into their portfolio.
“We are very pleased to see such a significant range of Warrants introduced into New Zealand”, said Geoff Brown, NZX Market Development Manager. “New Zealanders have proven their appetite for leverage in other asset classes, such as investment property, so the introduction of this Warrants range into New Zealand by ABN Amro, provides an excellent opportunity for New Zealand investors to leverage their returns”.
Mr Brown said that third party Instalment Warrants such as these, have not been available in New Zealand for at least three years.
ABN Amro, a leading issuer of Instalment Warrants in Australia, have made a major commitment to bring this type of product to the New Zealand market with the listing of the Warrants series and the appointment of Aaron Milne as ABN Amro Director Warrant Sales.
NZX expects the introduction of the ABN Amro Instalment Warrants series to have a positive impact on liquidity in the underlying securities.
“From NZX’s perspective, this is a very positive sign. We have for many years had a vanilla market in New Zealand, but the introduction of this Warrants series – combined with other initiatives such as Direct Market Access, the listing of equity options on June 28, and expected tax changes that will facilitate stock borrowing – signals a maturing of the marketplace, which is good for investors and market participants”, said Geoff Brown.
