NZX 50 Closes At Record, NZX SciTech Passes 1500 Mark

The NZX 50 Index climbed 29.19 points to an intra-day high of 4318.78 today, closing past the 4300 mark for the first time.

The NZX 50 Index, the headline index, has had a strong run, climbing 120.94 points in the first three weeks of this month.

Driving the strong NZX 50 Index performance today were Ryman Healthcare, Lion Nathan and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare.

The market has responded positively to a number of strong results announcements released this month, including Rakon, Infratil and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare.

The NZX 50 Portfolio Index, which comprises shares in the top fifty companies but with a cap on index weighting of 5%, passed 2500 last week, closing at 2543.30 today.

NZX CEO Mark Weldon said, “This performance reflects the underlying strength and resilience of the listed sector. It's a great signal to New Zealanders investing in the growth of New Zealand companies.”

Another milestone today was the NZX SciTech Index climbing 26.25 points during the day to pass the 1500 mark, closing at 1525.23. The NZX SciTech Index has climbed 16.5% in the last 12 months, compared with a 13.9% rise in the NZX 50 Index.
