NZSE Makes More Information Available To Investors

Date 06/12/2001

The NZSE can now provide summary depth information to brokers who can distribute it through their websites.

NZSE Managing Director Bill Foster said that the release of market depth information had been delayed because of delays in the commissioning of computer software.

Summary depth information now available gives the total value and number of buy and sell orders in the market at each price. That is, it is pre-trade information about what orders are already in the market. Until now investors could only see the best bid and offer quotes in the market at any time.

Mr Foster said that summary depth information has been available from some websites since Monday.

The summary depth information is only provided "live" (i.e. without any delays) and there are charges for access and use, as for other live information distributed by the NZSE. Member firms and other information providers distributing the information can decide how or whether to recover these charges from their customers.
