The New York Stock Exchange today opened its doors to the President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki.
President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa met with NYSE Euronext CEO John A. Thain and closed the NYSE market.
“We are honored to welcome South African President Thabo Mbeki and his delegation to the New York Stock Exchange,” said NYSE Euronext CEO John A. Thain. “This visit reinforces our continuing dialogue with South Africa and we look forward to adding additional companies from South Africa to the largest global equities marketplace.”
“It is a privilege for us to visit the New York Stock Exchange,” said President Mbeki. The South African economy is witnessing unprecedented growth. We believe that US companies can play an even greater role in this regard. We trust that our interaction with the NYSE will further strengthen the interaction between our two economies.”
The NYSE currently lists six companies from South Africa with a total global market capitalization of more than $69.4 billion (as of June 30, 2207).
The NYSE is home to 425 non-U.S. companies from 45 countries. These global and regional leaders have a combined total global market capitalization of over $10 trillion.
