NYSE Revises Records Set For Daily Share Volume, Crossing Session II Volume First 3 Billion-Share Day

On Friday, June 24, daily volume at the New York Stock Exchange reached a revised record 3,122,938,428 shares, making it the first 3 billion-share day in the Exchange’s history. 
  • The NYSE previously reported the volume at 2,904,020,586 shares. 
  • The previous record of 2,812,918,977 shares was set on July 24, 2002.

The NYSE’s Crossing Session II for June 24, 2005 was revised to record volume of 1,074,368,748 shares.

  • The NYSE previously reported the Crossing Session II volume at 855,450,906 shares.
  • The previous Crossing Session II record of 620,757,715 shares was set on June 25, 2004.

Additionally, the revised value of trading of $99.6 billion on June 25, 2004 remains the second highest ever

  • The NYSE previously reported the June 25 value of trading at $91.9 billion.
  • The record of $102.3 billion was reached on March 18, 2005.

The revisions were necessary because certain firms initially experienced problems reporting Crossing Session II activity.
