NYSE Reaches Second 3 Billion-Share Day Dollar Value Of Trading Sets New High

On Friday, Sept. 16, daily volume at the New York Stock Exchange reached 3,092,762,940 shares, making it the second 3 billion-share day in the Exchange’s history. The Exchange’s all time high and first 3 billion-share day was on July 24, 2005 with 3,122,938,428 shares traded.

On Sept. 16, the NYSE’s Crossing Session II reached 533,039,780 shares, making it the third busiest day on record for CS II. The all-time high for CS II of 855,450,906 shares was set on June 24, 2005. The second busiest day for CS II was on June 25, 2004 with 620,757,715 shares.

Additionally, Friday’s trading dollar value of $112.0 billion set a new record high. The previous record was $102.3 billion reached on March 18, 2005.
