Mr. Burkhardt, 39, will be responsible for aligning the Exchange's business and technology strategies, leading the NYSE's Technology Division, identifying enhancements to NYSE systems and new products, and managing the Exchange's relationship with Securities Industry Automation Corp., the Exchange's technology subsidiary. He will also be a member of the NYSE's Management Committee, which leads the development of the Exchange's business strategy. He will report to Robert G. Britz, group executive vice president, Equities.
"Technology is an integral component of every aspect of our business, and Roger is ideally suited to lead our efforts," said Mr. Britz. "Roger will play a key role as we use technology not only to strengthen our existing market model, but also to integrate new market-information and order-execution capabilities that will ensure that the NYSE remains the world's leading equities market."
Mr. Burkhardt was with IBM Corp. from 1982-1997, holding positions in Europe and the United States as a systems engineer and sales manager before becoming manager of Advanced Exchange Systems. From 1997 through June 2000 he was with Optimark Technologies Inc., first as vice president of Strategic Alliances, later as president, Listed Equities.
He holds a Masters degree in Physics from Oxford University and a master of business administration from New York University.
