NYSE Members Elect 12 To Board Of Directors

The New York Stock Exchange today elected six new and six current directors to the Exchange's board of directors.

The board consists of 12 non-industry members, 12 industry members, NYSE chairman and CEO Dick Grasso, and NYSE Presidents, Co-Chief Operating Officers and Executive Vice Chairmen Catherine Kinney and Robert Britz.

Six New Directors ElectedThe new non-industry directors are Madeleine K. Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State, founder and principal of The Albright Group; Herbert M. Allison, Jr., chairman, president and CEO of the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association and College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF); and Andrea Jung, chairman and CEO of Avon Products, Inc.

The new securities industry representatives are Robert B. Fagenson, vice chairman, Van der Moolen Specialists USA, LLC; E. Stanley O'Neal, Chairman and CEO of Merrill, Lynch & Co., Inc.; and Philip J. Purcell, chairman and CEO of Morgan Stanley.

Three Non-Industry Directors Re-elected

Three current non-industry directors were re-elected. They are:

  • Mel Karmazin, president and COO of Viacom Inc.;
  • H. Carl McCall, vice chairman of HealthPoint;
  • Larry W. Sonsini, chairman and CEO of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

Three Securities Industry Directors Re-elected

Three current securities industry directors were re-elected. They are:

  • George C. McNamee, chairman of First Albany Companies Inc.;
  • Henry M. Paulson, Jr., chairman and CEO of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.;
  • Christopher C. Quick, CEO of Fleet Specialist, Inc.

Two Vice Chairmen Elected

James E. Cayne, Chairman and CEO of The Bear Stearns Companies, Inc., was elected vice chairman of the board, and Robert M. Murphy, CEO, LaBranche & Co. LLC was re-elected vice chairman of the board.
