NYSE Honored To Welcome H.E. Michelle Bachelet, President Of Chile

The New York Stock Exchange today opened its doors to the President of Chile, Her Excellency Michelle Bachelet. 

President Bachelet was accompanied by the Chilean Ambassador to the US , the Ambassador to the UN, and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Energy and Minery as well as the President of the Chilean Stock Exchange.

“We are very pleased to have the President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet and her delegation visit the New York Stock Exchange,” said NYSE Group, Inc. Chief Executive Officer John A. Thain.  “This visit is a significant step in our continuing partnership with Chile and we look forward to adding more Chilean companies to our marketplace.”

"We have 16 companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange," said H.E. Michelle Bachelet, President of Chile. "We're going to see how they perform when we open the market," she said during the guestbook signing at the NYSE.

The total market capitalization of the 16 Chilean companies listed on the NYSE is US$45.6 billion (as of 8/31/06 ).

In 2005, the total trading volume for all Chilean companies listed on the NYSE reached 278 million shares. During the same period, the trading value for all Chilean companies listed on the NYSE was US$5.6 bn.

The NYSE is home to 452 non-U.S. companies representing 47 countries, which are global and regional leaders in their respective industries.
