NYSE Group Increases Matched Market Share On First Day Of Reg. NMS Trading - System Message Volume Sets Record

NYSE Group, Inc. (NYSE: NYX) realized gains in NYSE-listed share of trading yesterday, March 5, the first day of Reg. NMS trading, as well as a record in system message throughput.

"NYSE Group markets performed well and produced very positive results on day one of Reg. NMS trading," said Mark Gurliacci, Vice President, Research, NYSE Group. "We are encouraged by the increases in transaction volume and share gains in NYSE-listed stocks.”

Market Share Gains

NYSE Group market share in NYSE-listed stocks for March 5, performed better than the year-to-date average. NYSE Group's single-day matched share of trading in NYSE-listed securities on Monday was 69.3%, representing a share increase of 3.0%. During NYSE regular trading hours, 9:30a.m. – 4:00 p.m., matched NYSE share of trading on Monday was 71.2%, an increase of 3.4%.

Message Traffic Records

NYSE systems handled a record 225.5 million messages or a 158% increase over a year ago when a then record 87.4 million messages were handled by NYSE systems in a single day. This continues a streak of records for message traffic beginning Tuesday, Feb. 27th. Yesterday, NYSE records included:

  • 30-second and one-minute records for CMS (Common Message Switch);
  • 30-second, one-minute and five-minute records for SuperDot and Post Support System;
  • 30-second and one-minute records for ITS.
