The NYSE Group, Inc. today reported short interest as of the close of business on the settlement date of February 15, 2011.
Based on information received from members and member organizations, short interest increased to 12,799,326,425 shares from 12,446,419,106 (revised) shares on January 31, 2011. This was an increase of 352,907,319 shares.
The short interest on February 15 was equal to 3.35 percent of the total shares outstanding.
The short interest in warrants as of February 15 amounted to 20,266,872 warrants, compared to 21,791,734 warrants the previous period.
As of the settlement date, there were 4,302 stocks and 50 warrants available for trading. Of these, 3,679 issues had either a short position of at least 5,000 shares or a change of 2,000 shares since the last monthly report.
