NYSE Euronext Joins Discover America Partnership

Date 16/05/2012

NYSE Euronext (NYX) has joined the Discover America Partnership, an intensive advocacy and grassroots campaign to grow U.S. exports and jobs through visa and entry reforms that will enable the United States to regain the 17 percent market share of overseas travelers it had in 2000 by 2015.

“By making it unnecessarily difficult – or in many cases financially impossible – for millions of people to visit the U.S., we are needlessly damaging our economy, deepening our trade deficit and slowing one of the most powerful engines of U.S. exports: travel,” said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association and chair of the Discover America Partnership. “We welcome NYSE Euronext to the Discover America Partnership and look forward to working with them as we bring attention to the issue of U.S. exports.”

“We are delighted to join the Discover America Partnership and support its efforts toward improving travel to the U.S.,” said Scott Cutler, Executive Vice President and Co-Head of U.S. Listings and Cash Execution at NYSE Euronext. “The travel industry generates an estimated $1.9 trillion in U.S. economic output and helps drive performance at nearly 350 companies listed on NYSE Euronext exchanges. Ensuring thoughtful and prudent travel policies is vital to the success of global competitiveness, economic well being and job creation. “

The Partnership’s campaign initiatives include:

  • Educating policymakers and opinion leaders on the economic significance of tourism and business travel to the United States;
  • Highlighting the barriers that prevent the United States from maximizing its potential in the global travel market; and
  • Presenting high-impact solutions with low or no cost that will enable the United States to create hundreds of thousands of sustainable American jobs.

U.S. Travel reactivated the Discover America Partnership in May 2011 to unite a diverse group of stakeholders behind a focused and intensive campaign to advance recommendations in U.S. Travel’s “Ready for Takeoff” report on the U.S. visa system.
