NYSE Euronext Hosts Girls Who Code Inaugural Gala At The New York Stock Exchange On October 22

Date 22/10/2012

Today, Girls Who Code, a national nonprofit organization working to close the gender gap in the technology and engineering sectors, will hold its inaugural gala on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange.  NYSE Euronext is a title sponsor of the event.

The Girls Who Code movement, aimed at boosting the tech industry’s female presence and empowering women to succeed in a male-dominated sector, together with leading educators and engineers developed a new model for computer science education.  The model pairs intensive instruction in robotics, web design, and mobile development with mentorship led by the industry's top female engineers and entrepreneurs. Girls Who Code recently completed its first program with 100% of the participants stating that they are definitely or more likely to major in computer science.

“NYSE Euronext is proud to host the Girls Who Code gala at the New York Stock Exchange,” said Marisa Ricciardi, Senior Vice President, NYSE Euronext Global Marketing & Branding.  “The Girls Who Code initiative creates a solid foundation for girls to harness their full potential and have a competitive advantage in the tech industry.  Providing young girls with cutting-edge skills and access to tools and resources will empower them to innovate and propel them from the classroom to the Board Room.”

"I am grateful to NYSE Euronext for their generosity, passion and vision in furthering our mission to close the gender gap in technology and engineering. One day these girls will come back to the NYSE as leaders in the field,” said Reshma Saujani, Founder of Girls Who Code.
