NYSE Euronext (NYX) today commemorated the 10th anniversary of 9/11 with observances and bell ringings across NYSE Euronext U.S. and European Markets. NYSE Euronext locations in New York, Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon and Paris hosted global bell ceremonies to remember the victims of 9/11, their families and loved ones, and those who selflessly aided the rescue and recovery effort.
We are humbled to commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001, to remember those lives lost, to recognize the heroic actions of so many who selflessly aided in the rescue and recovery, and to remember the resilience of our nation," said Duncan Niederauer, CEO, NYSE Euronext. "It is a privilege to acknowledge the efforts of those gathered here today and others involved who helped reopen the market on September 17, 2001. On behalf of NYSE Euronext and my colleagues, we will never forget, we continue to move forward and we remain forever grateful."
At the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), The Opening BellSM included a Moment of Silence at 9:25 am ET followed by the singing of "God Bless America" by former USMC Major Rose-Ann L. Lynch. Opening Bell guests included: Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton; Former New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani; Former NYSE Chairman & CEO Richard A. Grasso; NYC Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly; 72nd Secretary of the U.S Treasury Paul H. O'Neill; 53rd Governor of the State of New York Governor George E. Pataki; 26th Chairman of the U.S. SEC Harvey L. Pitt; U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer; Former New York City OEM Director Richard Sheirer, and Former NYC Fire Department Commissioner Thomas Von Essen.
