In this newly created position, Mr. McMahon will manage the NYSE’s relationship with its member constituency as a whole, and with each of the major member firms individually. He is responsible for developing and overseeing the delivery of the NYSE’s overall value proposition for its members with the goal of maintaining and building order flow. Additionally, Mr. McMahon will serve as the designated contact for members to communicate their concerns and requirements and will work to ensure the Exchange provides a prompt and effective response.
Mr. McMahon was most recently managing director of Merrill Lynch’s U.S. cash equity trading in which he oversaw trading in listed and Nasdaq stocks. Additionally, he managed more than 200 trading professionals and staff including the firm’s NYSE floor broker operations.
“Ed understands markets and has been a valuable partner to the NYSE for many years,” said Mrs. Kinney. “His experience in the retail community makes him an ideal person to pioneer this role, bringing with him a first-hand appreciation of how the NYSE can best serve our customers.”
During his career at Merrill Lynch, Mr. McMahon played a key role in communicating the position of member firms through his service on two NYSE advisory committees. In 1992 he joined the NYSE Upstairs Traders Advisory Committee, of which he became chairman in 1998. Mr. McMahon had also been a member of the NYSE’s Market Performance Committee since 1998.
Mr. McMahon started his career at Merrill Lynch in 1973 and retired from the firm in 2004. Prior to his most recent role as managing director, he was manager of the firm’s Listed Equity Trading Desk.
