NYSE Appoints Committee On Market Structure, Governance And Ownership

The New York Stock Exchange has formed a committee of public directors who will study and make recommendations to the board on issues related to Exchange market structure, governance and ownership.
The committee will be co-chaired by Alex Trotman, former chairman, president and CEO of Ford Motor Corp.; and Clifton R. Wharton Jr., former chairman and CEO of TIAA/CREF. "Protecting and serving the interest of America's more than 70 million individual investors remains paramount for the NYSE," said NYSE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard A. Grasso.
"This committee will review the rapidly changing environment in our industry and make recommendations related to Exchange market models, governance and ownership. We recognize that investors, issuers and the broad landscape of market constituents have traditionally looked to the Exchange for leadership, and our goal is to provide continued leadership moving forward."
The other public directors comprising the committee are: Geoffrey C. Bible, chairman and CEO, Philip Morris Companies Inc.; Steven M. Case, chairman and CEO, America Online, Inc. Maurice R. Greenberg, chairman and CEO, American International Group, Inc.; Mel Karmazin, president and CEO, CBS Corporation; Gerald M. Levin, chairman and CEO, Time Warner Inc.; Lord Marshall, chairman, British Airways Plc; H. Carl McCall, comptroller of the State of New York; Leon E. Panetta, The Leon & Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy; Linda J. Wachner, chairman, president and CEO, The Warnaco Group, Inc.; and Kathryn Whitmire, James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership, University of Maryland.
