NYSE Announces Third-Quarter 2001 Financial Results

The New York Stock Exchange reported revenues of $662.2 million and operating income of $59.0 million in the first nine months of 2001, as compared with $606.6 million and $73.1 million during the same period a year ago.

For third-quarter 2001, revenues totaled $217.4 million and net income was $17.3 million, compared with $211.7 million and $25.9 million, respectively, in third-quarter 2000. In addition, the Exchange recorded a $19 million one-time pre-tax charge related to the elimination of 150 floor-reporter positions, as previously announced, in the third quarter of 2001.

Average daily trading volume for the first nine months of 2001 was 1.22 billion shares worth $43.4 billion, compared with 1.01 billion shares worth $43.7 billion in the comparable period of 2000.
