Average daily trading volume for the first six months of 2003 was 1.45 billion shares valued at $37.7 billion, compared with 1.38 billion shares worth $42.5 billion in the comparable period of 2002. In the first half of 2003, 36 companies joined the roster of NYSE-listed stocks, compared with 77 in the year-ago period.
