NYMEX To Increase Margins On Electricity Futures Contracts

The New York Mercantile Exchange will raise margins on its Palo Verde and California/Oregon border futures contracts and on the June, July, and August 2000 contracts for Cinergy, Entergy, and Pennsylvania/New Jersey/Maryland, as of the close of business today.

The margins on California/Oregon border and Palo Verde electricity futures will be increased to $1,500 from $1,000 for clearing members; to $1,650 from $1,100 for members; and to $2,025 from $1,350 for customers. Margins on Cinergy, Entergy, and Pennsylvania/New Jersey/Maryland electricity futures will be increased to $3,600 from $3,000 for clearing members; to $3,960 from $3,300 for members; and to $4,860 from $4,050 for customers

Margins on spreads involving the Cinergy, Entergy, and Pennsylvania/New Jersey/Maryland June, July, and August 2000 contracts will be raised to $2,000 from $1,400 for clearing members; to $2,200 from $1,540 for members; and to $2,700 from $1,890 for customers. Margins on spreads between all other months will remain the same.
