The only time more volume traded on NYMEX ACCESS® was during the two–hour special daytime session on September 14, 2001, when 69,790 contracts were traded, the first time the market was open after the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center.
e–miNYsm volume of 9,987 contracts surpassed the previous record of 8,080 contracts on September 29, while e–miNYsm crude oil futures volume of 9,196 contracts exceeded the previous record of 7,393 contracts set on the same day.
Exchange President James E. Newsome said, "The records for overnight trading indicate that market participants have come to rely on the transparency, liquidity, and financial security of the Exchange markets around the clock. It is also evident that the e–miNY energy futuressm contracts, are playing an increasingly important role in the portfolios of market participants, as evidenced by their eighth volume record since August 11."
e-miNYsm futures are traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange GLOBEX® system and cleared through the New York Mercantile Exchange clearinghouse. They are 50% of the size of the standard–sized energy futures contracts and are traded from 3:15 PM, New York time, Mondays through Thursdays, and 7 PM, New York time, on Sundays until 2:30 PM the following day, with breaks between 9:30 AM and 10 AM, 2:30 PM and 3:15 PM, and 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM.
