The New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc., announced today that 46,255 futures contracts were traded on the NYMEX ACCESS® electronic trading system last night, a record for overnight electronic trading.

The previous record for overnight trading was 42,131 contracts, set on June 5.

The only time more volume traded on NYMEX ACCESS® was during the two-hour special daytime session, on September 14, when 69,790 contracts were traded the first time the market was open after September 11.

Exchange President J. Robert Collins, Jr., said, "NYMEX ACCESS® volume is up 107% year-to-date, along with the 28% increase that our energy and metals futures and options markets have been experiencing overall. It has been a difficult year for energy market participants and we are delighted that we have been able to provide a safe haven for the industry to manage its risk."
