Total COMEX Division futures and options volume set a monthly record of 3,481,090 contracts traded, exceeding the 3,346,453 contracts traded in November 2005.
Gold futures reached 2,052,651 contracts, surpassing the previous record of 2,018,847 contracts traded in January.
The silver options contract traded 228,004 contracts, beating the previous record of 197,390 contracts set in January.
James E. Newsome, NYMEX president and chief executive officer, said, "We are very pleased to see these monthly volume records. The metals markets have seen tremendous growth, and we are gratified to provide a transparent and liquid marketplace for the industry."
