The New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc., a subsidiary of NYMEX Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: NMX), set daily volume records today for total crude oil futures traded on electronic and open outcry venues and crude oil futures traded on the CME Globex electronic trading platform.
Total crude oil futures, via electronic and open outcry trading, reached 880,873 contracts, surpassing the 800,731 contracts traded on January 11.
Electronically traded crude oil futures totaled 751,429 contracts, exceeding the 702,578 contracts traded on November 7.
NYMEX launched its physically settled futures contracts for trading on CME Globex during regular open outcry trading hours on September 5, 2006, following its initial offering of financially settled, standard-sized and NYMEX miNY energy futures contracts for trading on CME Globex on June 12, 2006. On December 4, 2006, NYMEX introduced full-sized and COMEX miNY metals futures contracts for side by side trading. Options trading launched on CME Globex on June 25.
