The New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc. (NYSE: NMX) announced today that it set a daily volume record for crude oil futures on the CME Globex electronic trading platform yesterday.
Crude oil futures reached a record 626,447 contracts, surpassing the 616,688 contracts traded on September 6.
NYMEX Chairman Richard Schaeffer said, "We are pleased that NYMEX continues to be the venue of choice for the energy marketplace. NYMEX is gratified provide the most transparent and liquid marketplace for energy risk management."
NYMEX launched its physically settled futures contracts for trading on CME Globex during regular open outcry trading hours on September 5, 2006, following its initial offering of financially settled, standard-sized and NYMEX miNY energy futures contracts for trading on CME Globex on June 12, 2006. On December 4, 2006, NYMEX introduced full-sized and COMEX miNY metals futures contracts for side by side trading. Options trading launched on CME Globex on June 25.
