NYMEX Sets Crude Oil Daily Volume Record
Date 15/07/1999
A daily volume record was established on the New York Mercantile Exchange yesterday for crude oil futures trading when 244,742 contracts traded, surpassing the previous record of 244,714 contracts set on May 12, 1999.
Exchange President R. Patrick Thompson said, "This record is the highest of any contract in the history of the Exchange. Crude oil is up 17% over last year, a strong indication of the continued growth and vitality of our global benchmark light, sweet crude oil futures contract and that the Exchange remains the international leader in providing risk management and price discovery services to the energy industry."
