NYMEX Natural Gas Trading Sets Monthly Volume Record
Date 04/08/1999
Natural gas futures trading set a monthly volume record in July on the
New York Mercantile Exchange when 1,865,787 contracts were traded, surpassing the previous record of 1,788,528 contracts traded this past March.
Exchange President R. Patrick Thompson said, "This record reflects a noteworthy month in which Henry Hub natural gas futures, the second most actively traded contract at the Exchange, set a daily volume record of 203,807 contracts and an overnight electronic trading record of 16,038 contracts on NYMEX ACCESS(SM). From a broader perspective, the record can be seen as further evidence of the growth and vitality of our strategic commodity contracts as they continue to be relied upon as the premier global tools for risk management and price discovery of physical commodities."
