Date 09/05/2000

The New York Mercantile Exchange has hired David Keller, former chief information and technology officer at Sempra Energy Trading group, as chief information officer.

Mr. Keller served as the chief information and technology officer at Sempra since October 1997. In that capacity, he advised the company on technology strategies and ensured implementation of solutions. He supervised the redesign of Sempra's critical business systems; technology issues related to the company's headquarters relocation; implementing a world-wide network; and developing and operating the technological infrastructure necessary to support a world-wide business with ten offices and 325 users.

Before joining Sempra, Mr. Keller started Energy Net® Corporation where he developed a business plan to create a B2B wholesale energy marketplace using the internet and web- based technologies to reduce the costs and streamline the business cycles involved with energy transactions.

Prior to that, he was the president, chief executive officer, and founder of Enersoft Corporation in Houston, Texas. Enersoft was a developer of trading applications, decision support systems, and real-time on-line electronic services, specifically for the energy industry. The Exchange was a partner with Enersoft in Channel 4SM, a cash-market trading and information system for the natural gas industry. Mr. Keller also developed Simplified Software, Inc., in 1987 and served as vice president of financial management services and director of product development for Computil Corporation from 1985 to 1987.

He serves on the investment advisory board for Commerce Road Ventures, a private speculative fund that finances startup companies, and served as a non-executive board member of Iventure.com, an internet company. He has contributed to various industry publications, including American Pipeline Magazine and Natural Gas Focus, and has also been a frequent speaker at industry- and government-sponsored conventions.

He holds a bachelors degree in business administration and a masters of business administration in management information systems, both from Pace University.

President R. Patrick Thompson said, "We look forward to Mr. Keller's contributions as we increase our focus on technology and move forward with e-commerce. His role will be critical to developing technology that will enhance the efficiency of the trading floor and preserve the competitiveness of open outcry. Mr. Keller will also be a key member of the team that will develop eNYMEX, the Exchange's newly formed subsidiary for over-the-counter forward trading and clearing physical commodity contracts."
