Nymex: Gasoline Futures Set Annual Volume Record

Gasoline futures surpassed its previous annual volume record yesterday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc., when the total reached 11,037,810 contracts for the year, topping the 10,979,736 contracts traded in 2002.

Exchange President J. Robert Collins, Jr., said, "The performance of the gasoline contract is particularly noteworthy in the context of the disruption of the New York harbor marketplace that had occurred this year as a result of the diverging state policy on gasoline additives. This record is tangible evidence of the industry reliance on this risk management tool and reinforces our commitment to maintaining these services for as broad a segment of the marketplace as possible."
